The Aberdeen Police Department says a Cameron woman has been arrested after officers responded to a report of child abuse last week.
According to a press release, officers and investigators were called to John McQueen Road on September 25 for a report of abuse that had just occurred. When they arrived, they found a neighbor standing with a child who was visibly upset. The child, identified as the son of 29-year-old Savannah Jane Fowler, told the neighbor and officers that his mother had hit him in the head several times and strangled him.
Investigators said they observed physical injuries, spoke with the child and neighbor, and later reviewed surveillance video that captured the incident. Fowler was taken into custody and charged with felony assault by strangulation, misdemeanor child abuse, and misdemeanor assault on a child under 12.
Fowler was brought before a Moore County magistrate, who did not issue a bond. She is being held pending a hearing before a Moore County District Court judge.
Any person facing charges is innocent in the eyes of the law until proven guilty in court.
