Carthage water restrictions begin Oct. 12 during treatment plant upgrades

The Town of Carthage will implement mandatory water restrictions beginning the week of Oct. 12 as scheduled maintenance and upgrades get underway at the town’s water treatment plant.

The restrictions are expected to remain in place through Dec. 6 while the treatment plant is taken out of service for approximately eight weeks.

Town officials emphasized that the restrictions are not related to drought conditions or concerns about the quality of Carthage’s drinking water. Instead, they are being put in place because the town will temporarily have limited access to its normal water supply while the plant work is completed.

During the project, Carthage will purchase treated water through an interconnection agreement with the Town of Southern Pines and Moore County.

The town has not indicated that residents will be without water during the project. The mandatory restrictions are intended to reduce demand while Carthage relies on purchased water instead of its treatment plant.

Residents can find additional information about the restrictions on the Town of Carthage website or contact Carthage Town Hall at 910-947-2331.
