We’re excited to announce the next evolution of our coverage. Moore County News is officially launching a dedicated weather-focused platform: MCN SkyAlert.

Weather has become one of the most important parts of what we do. Our severe weather updates, daily forecasts, and storm coverage consistently rank among our most impactful posts. You’ve told us that fast, accurate, local weather information is essential and we’re ready to take it to the next level.

As part of this launch, we’re proud to share that MCN SkyAlert is the only NWS-certified SKYWARN® publication in Moore County.
This distinction allows us to deliver real-time, life-saving information during extreme weather, including severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, flash flooding, winter storms, and dangerous heat. Our SKYWARN® certification means we work closely with the National Weather Service to relay ground-truth reports and rapidly communicate urgent alerts to the community.

MCN SkyAlert will focus on:

  • Daily local forecasts every morning
  • Severe weather alerts and live storm tracking
  • Radar updates tailored specifically to Moore County
  • Weather explainers, preparedness tips, and seasonal outlooks
  • Enhanced graphics, tools, and real-time data
  • Official NWS-integrated alerts through our SKYWARN® reporting system

This move allows us to bring you the most advanced, trusted, and hyper-local weather coverage available anywhere in Moore County. You have helped build this community to more than 20,000 followers, and we’re excited to bring you an even stronger product.

For those who rely on our breaking news coverage, don’t worry, it’s not completely going away. But we are shifting our primary focus to weather because Moore County lacks a strong, dedicated local weather source, and we’re ready to fill that gap.

Welcome to MCN SkyAlert.
