A two-vehicle crash at one of Moore County’s most notorious intersections temporarily shut down a lane of N.C. Highway 73 Thursday afternoon.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the driver of a Honda Pilot was attempting to cross the highway from Jackson Springs Road when they failed to yield to an oncoming Toyota Corolla traveling eastbound on Highway 73. The Corolla T-boned the Pilot in the intersection.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the crash. All occupants were evaluated at the scene by paramedics and released.

The West End Fire Department and Moore County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene and closed the westbound lane of Highway 73, directing traffic around the crash site using the eastbound lane until the roadway was cleared.

Troopers charged the driver of the Honda Pilot with failure to yield.

The crash highlights ongoing concerns about the safety of the intersection at N.C. 73 and Jackson Springs Road, which is considered one of the most crash-prone in the county. According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, plans are underway to convert the intersection into a four-way stop in an effort to reduce collisions.
