A head-on collision involving multiple vehicles closed a part of U.S. 1 at the Moore and Richmond county line on Saturday night.

First responders were sent to the scene in Richmond County four miles south of Pinebluff just after 6:30 p.m.

Authorities tell Moore County News that one of the vehicles involved crossed the median into oncoming traffic, hitting another vehicle head-on. Two other vehicles were damaged during the incident as well.

The driver of the vehicle that crossed the median was airlifted to a trauma center. Several occupants of the other vehicles were transported to local hospitals.

U.S. 1 was completely shut down initially after the crash. The southbound lanes opened back up once all patients were transported, the northbound lanes remained closed as the crash was investigated and cleared.
